Unborn Peace

"For peace to be real it must be unaffected by circumstances."
- Gandhi

Just last Saturday at a gathering here in Maine when people were asked what feel  'Home' has for them, someone said 'Unborn peace.'

That answer resonates with me deeply - but that was certainly not always the case.

I used to believe that peace was 'born' due to certain conditions. When family members acted a certain way, when things in life fell in place, when my thoughts stopped saying negative, judgmental things, when my health or bank account was just so and on and on - then peace would be experienced.

And the frustrating thing was that the conditions I believed necessary for peace kept changing. I would often get what I believed I needed and would feel at peace for a little while but then soon felt something else is now needed. It was an endless cycle of hope and frustration never allowing the lasting peace I was seeking.

Does any of that sound familiar  - not only about the tendency to project peace into the future but also how that projection just simply does not work?

And what if it doesn't work because -  it just simply is not true?

What if projecting peace into the future, onto certain conditions, doesn't work because peace is not in the future and is not based on certain conditions?

What if peace is actually here and now - unborn, uncreated by any condition, and unaffected by any condition?

Is it possible that 'the peace that passes understanding' that Jesus and many others point to is actually Now - ever present - regardless of any condition?

May the knowing of Unborn Peace as our true Home take root in more and more of us .... not only during this holiday season but within each moment of each day as we let go of projecting and are open to what already is now.

It is all very simple. Instead of seeing things imagined, learn to see them as they are. When you can see everything as it is, you will also see yourself as you are. It is like cleansing a mirror. The same mirror that shows you the world as it is, will also show you your own face."
